Bournemouth Youth Marching Band

Amici Per Musicam - Friends Through Music

BYMB Youth Awards Programme

INTRODUCTION

Every youth member (school / college age - under approx 19) of the Band who participates in the Programme should face a similar degree of challenge. The requirements can be adapted according to each young person’s abilities.

In addition to the awards from the Youth Awards Programme there will be other annual Band awards for both adult and youth members as well.

Similarities and alignment with other staged youth award schemes are deliberate.

The scheme will largely run in the background during our regular meetings and performances.

The BYMB Youth Awards Programme recognises and rewards individual commitment, effort and achievement in six areas –

  1. Rehearsal
  2. Performance
  3. Discipline, deportment and turnout
  4. Skill
  5. Knowledge
  6. Interest.

Main Band members will generally start on the Programme at Level 2 or Level 3 (Bronze), Beginners and the Training Band at Level 1.

Level 1/2, 3, 4 and 5 should each take about 3/4 to 1 year to complete. For meetings a minimum 70% attendance per year and 15 performances at each of levels 3, 4 and 5 are required.

For current members the rehearsal, provided that the minimum 70% has been met each calendar year (Jan - Dec), can be backdated. Then if this has been satisfied the number of performances can also then be backdated to count from September 2016.

For example a current member with
a minimum of 70% attendance at meetings during 2016 and 2017
has taken part in at least 30 performances since September 2016
          the Level 3 Bronze award
can gain a L4 Silver award once the other requirements have been completed.

For a Youth Member to gain an award membership subscriptions and any other membership requirements must be up to date.

The Guidelines for each instrument and level are in the documents below.
